The needs of mothers, infants and children are the focus of this health center by integrating previously scattered programs into a single comprehensive facility. Combined under one roof are the Children’s Hospital, Women’s Hospital, Perinatal Facility, and Children’s Psychiatric Unit. To reduce the stress associated with a hospital visit, careful attention was given to the interior design. The lobby has a relaxed outdoor park atmosphere. Birthing rooms feature oak headwalls, colorful furnishings and hidden medical equipment to provide a soothing, homelike environment. A dramatic three story glass atrium links the new facility to the adjacent Taubman Center and creates a visual focus for clinics and waiting areas.
