Patrons at this community center are offered a wide variety of recreational programming in a cheerful, non-institutional environment. The pool was designed to be very flexible and invigorating, and has the ability to host high school competitions, lap swimming, Red Cross training, and youth activities. A zero-depth entry deck and pool bottom are generously decorated with ceramic tile murals of shoreline imagery. In addition, the shallow area is animated with sprays and fountains, as well as a water slide, a larger water flume and a twirl pool – all within a single body of water, saving construction and operational costs.
The front door is a wraparound porch recalling a strong sense of community that exists in the City of Lapeer. Spaces are organized around the main entry hall, which also houses the weight fitness equipment, and offers views to the gym, running track, racquetball courts, spectator seating and the pool. Three multi-purpose rooms provide space for aerobics, meetings, child care, arts and crafts and receptions.
