Harper Hospital Intensive Care Unit

This extensive renovation created five ICU patient rooms and one isolation unit. Patients can now be treated in-house during the course of several levels of care instead of transferring to another care provider. The design goal was to provide a warm and welcoming environment for patients and families while providing support for leading edge treatments. Efficient, bright spaces for staff collaboration enhance the team environment. Paramount visual contact with patients was achieved with glazed sliding doors and viewing windows at charting stations adjacent to the patient rooms. The use of wood finishes and a warm color palate enhance views of downtown Detroit, improving patient comfort.

TMP successfully renovated a portion of the floor while allowing the rest of the floor to continue serving patients with severe immune system complications. Work also involved the modification and replacement of infrastructure, including power, water and sewer, and communications along with a complete replacement of the ventilation system to ensure high quality of air exchanges for the unit. Much of this work was carried out on the floors above and below the ICU site, in areas that also had to remain functional during the process.
