Courtyard Restoration

The Quadrangle, originally designed in the late 1920s by Eliel Saarinen, with its brick walkways, stone inlays, benches and landscaping, had become badly deteriorated through exposure to some 60 years of weathering.  Committed to the preservation of this historic treasure, the owner commissioned the reconstruction of space with the stipulation that it be “faithful to the original design,” but “improved in strength, serviceability, and maintenance characteristics.”

TMP researched the school’s archives, identified most of the original drawings for the courtyard, and then developed plans and specifications which duplicate the original courtyard in appearance.  Current technology and construction methods were utilized to achieve a paving system which is superior in strength and durability to the original system.
